The 6th Annual Global Mixx Music Retreat reschedules to Labor Day weekend in the Dominican Republic

CHICAGO (April 25th, 2011)- The GMIXX Music Retreat has pushed back the music seminar weekend from its originally dates (May 27th-30th) during the Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend in the Dominican Republic. To maintain the integrity of the brand and allow its target audience to have more options to choose from, we have decided to produce the 3-day event during the Labor Day Weekend (September 2-5th, 2011) in the Dominican Republic.. There will still be some of the top industry music and marketing professionals will be part of workshops and introspective panel discussions. Panelists confirmations and a whole new event schedule will announced soon.

GMIXX will offer a range of events with event partner, NYCE that include In addition, other events range from an exclusive VIP opening reception, “The Breakfast Club” featuring Urban Radio’s top programmers, the Indie Hip Hop & R&B Showcase, the Gospel Sunday Rooftop Brunch, Soul Dance Party, and an all day music seminar with a host of influential industry heavies. This year’s host hotel/resort, (TBA) will paint the canvas for on-site registration, high-powered panel discussions, workshops and the “Money, Music & Power” luncheon for GMIXX registrants.

Global Mixx Founder and Executive Director, Mary Datcher explains the decision to postpone the retreat while maintain the brand. “Although, it is important to give our participants a different landscape to ‘work and play’, we also have to be sensitive to people’s financial challenges. In light of pushing back the dates to a later time this year, we hope to allow people enough time to take full advantage of participating in this year’s GMIXX Music Retreat on the beautiful island of the Dominican Republic. Travel and revised sponsorship packages will be announced very soon,”

Hugo H. was playing music before he could write his name. He was amazed by the sounds that came from the round disc and quickly learned to identify song just by looking at the labels. At 4 years old, Hugo H. walked up to the counter of his Grandfather’s music store, placed his coins on the counter and purchased his first record. Who would have known that that same music driven toddler had already discovered what he was born to do. By 17 Hugo H. had developed quite a record collection and name for himself. Spending every weekend playing sometimes 3 parties in one night, He would d.j. popular high school parties for Mendel, Longwood and various high schools across the city. His club gigs included The Playground, Humming Bird, The Warehouse, Sauers and gigs overseas. Born and raised on Chicago’s Southside, First Lady’s started her career over 24 years ago singing “House Music and working at WGCI-FM as the first female mixer on the radio in Chicago. Since that time, First Lady has done radio stints in New York, Milwaukee, and Michigan. She is also the recipient of the 2006 Billboard Hip Hop and R&B Radio Award APD/MD of the year for a large market. Currently she wears several hats as the Program Director of WTLC Gospel radio station, ‘The Light’ and Asst. PD/Music Director of Hot 963 in Indianapolis.

During the day he licenses music for Universal Music Group and by night DJs countless events and has done parties for Prince, Bernie Mack, Fader, Essence, All-Star and Super Bowl XLV to name a few. Surprisingly, Drack Muse still remains planted in the underground. He is co-founder of Extra Mild Sauce, a collective of Chicago promoters and DJ’s living in Los Angeles who are connoisseurs of soulful Deep House Music. However, his favorite gig of all-time is being a husband and father of two.
